Yayoi Kusama at Louis Vuitton

What’s all the commotion about?

Crowds were swarming a specific store front window at the now white polka-dot Louis Vuitton building on 5th Ave and at first I couldn’t understand why.  As soon as I pushed my way through the flock of inquisitors, there I saw her – Ms. Polka-a-dot herself – Yayoi Kusama standing dead still in LV’s display window surrounded by none other than (you guessed it) more polka dot fern-like sculptures.

If you recall, I just did a style shoot (Bohemian Rhapsody) on the westside highway where Ms. Yayoi Kusama also did an installation of her famous polka-dot phenomenon.  Apparently Ms. Kusama is continuing to put her stamp on new york and spreading her work into as many crevices as possible due to her Retrospective Exhibition showing now at the Whitney Museum of American Art now until September 30, 2012.

Back to the point at hand, Ms. Kusama – in a window – standing still  - for hours?  Well, that is what many of us thought due to the incredibly human like figure that grabbed our attention.  After looking a little bit closer, we realized Ripley’s may have tricked us once again.  Bravo LV!

That said, I am very excited to see so much of Yayoi Kusama around New York.  I look forward to bumping into more of her surprises when I least expect it.  Bisous NYS
