Recette – A French Tapas Haven

You can’t resist them – small delicious bites that fill your mouth with spanish flare – Tapas – Ole!

Well Recette might be one of the newer kids on the block, but their modern/traditional dishes pack enough punch to guarantee that they are not going anywhere anytime soon.

This quaint, hidden gem is located in the every so charming West Village (of course I am biased).  The restaurant itself is quite simple and seems to focus more on the cuisine than the decor.  Head chef, Jesse Schenker , who has worked with Gordon Ramsay, among others, and his pastry chef, Christina Lee, a veteran of Per Se, serve up ‘Urban American’ dishes marrying traditional and progressive techniques and flavors.  The items on the menu are listed in French, but the food is served in a Spanish style – interesting combination.  The tasting menu is highly recommended.

My top dishes include: ”BUFFALO” SWEETBREADS, Pickled Celery, Blu di Bufala Dip; FRESH CUT SPAGHETTI, Sweet Shrimp, Stewed Tomato, Chili, Sea Urchin (it gives Scarpetta a run for their money); DUCK BREAST, Foie Gras & Duck Leg Terrine, Swiss Chard, Mushroom,Walnuts; and the ”SMORES”, Graham Cracker Ice Cream, Toasted Marshmallow to wrap up the meal – a must!

If you are up for experimenting with unique flavors that put a spin on traditional dishes, I highly recommend giving Recette a go.  Bisous NYS
