Karl Lagerfeld for Net-A-Porter – First Look

Chanel Creative Director, Karl Lagerfeld, hit the net today with his exclusive collection for Net-A-Porter and guess who they invited to the preview of their new line? Moi!

Karl never does anything short of wow.   So in traditional Lagerfeld style, he had a grand launch in Paris, London, Berlin, Sydney and New York early this a.m..  I was thrilled to see what the fashion icon had dreamed up.  Upon entering the mini pop-up shop located at 327 Bleecker St, I was delightfully greeted with a KARL Canvas Tote filled with a KARL T-shirt and signature Cut Away Gloves. Yippee!  Inside, the store walls were covered from floor to ceiling in looks from the collection and visitors where able to scan the products on the wall with an iPhone or ipad2 via the Karl for Net-a-porter application.  They also had a darling coffee stand to pump you with caffeine while you scan away.

Unfortunately there were no physical items to purchase in store from the predominately black and white collection.  Instead they offered the whole “scan and win” game which directs you to the collection online to buy if you don’t win.  At first I was apprehensive, but after winning not one but TWO items, the Ossie two-tone leather biker vest and Jane layered twill tuxedo jacket, I became a believer.

The launch of KARL by Karl Lagerfeld also happens to coincide with the re-launch of Lagerfeld’s more expensive namesake line, Karl Lagerfeld Paris, which has been on hiatus since 2010. That line initially launched in 1984, a year after Lagerfeld joined Chanel.  Hopefully now is the time that Karl’s star power will translate into big sales numbers for his own brands.  Check out the sale here before it sells out.  Bisous NYS
