Two completely different shows – Two iconic designers:
Roberto Cavalli is all va va voom from Madonna’s voice commanding the speakers to all the sequins and leopard print you could imagine – not to mention Naomi Campbell closing the show. Roberto is always down for a statement and a memorable season. All I could picture is how perfect his clothing is for the French and Italian Rivieras. I wanted to be running around St. Tropez and Capri in his triple layered, chiffon gowns sipping wine on the crystal seas.
Giorgio Armani was quite the opposite. I felt like I was watching a fashion show back in the late 70′s. It was all very simplistic – timeless. A plain room with a checkered lit catwalk. The models came out in staggered pairs, sometimes in triplets casually strolling down the catwalk in large rimmed hats while the crowd applauded for each set. The most dramatic part of the show was when Abbey Lee appeared with her open-back, black sequin gown facing the crowd and then slithered around and down the catwalk. But I must say it did take my breath away when Senore Giorgio Armani came out at the end to thank his audience. What a legend! Bacini NYS
