Fish Spa

I had heard stories, but never knew they really existed – FISH SPAS!  Can you imagine?  Well I finally got to experience the specialty treatment at AquaBliss Fish Spa in Barcelona and it was quite spectacular.

They say for centuries garra rufa (said exfoliating fish) have been used as a natural skin healing treatment in the rivers and hot pools of Turkey and the Middle East.  Basically these fishies nibble away layers of dead epidermis and leave your feet feeling rejuvenated, feeling fresh and smooth due to a regenerating diathanol enzyme the fish leave behind.

Obviously the idea was very exciting, but once I was perched over the tank, ready to immerse my feet into a bath of hungry, flesh-eating fish – I got a bit nervous.  I kindly asked the lady to give me a few seconds and then finally mustered up the confidence to take the plunge.  Yes it tickled.  I couldn’t stop giggling and then they kindly brought me a glass of Cava (Spain’s version of champagne) to ease the sensation.  Just what the doctor ordered!

I chose to do a 15 minute session with my little carnivorous friends followed by a human foot massage.  It. Was. Wonderful.  They definitely lived up to their name.

If you have never enjoyed this unique foot treatment, take a dive into a fish spa.  You have my word of honor – your feet will thank you!  Bisous NYS

Thank you to my dear friend Brittany for leading me to a place of tranquility in the middle of a city of chaos – BESOS
