Balmain, Balmain Oh Balmain – The Fall 2012 Collection and Afterparty

It’s like a dream…walking into a room full of Balmain’s hand embroidered pieces sparkling just as brightly as diamonds in a jewelry store – perhaps even more.

Let’s all admit it – We LOVE Balmain.  The structured shoulders, the tailored blazers and those heavy encrusted dresses and gowns that add that touch of glamour… heaven.  And this season they found a way to mix in needlepoint detail with a bolero jacket – Ole!

Creative Director Olivier Rousteing might have toned down the “rock” attitude in this season’s collection but he certainly rocked the runway while still incorporating the signature Balmain style.  Considering the collection is all about the flash, I was expecting the same from Olivier’s personality, but he is surprisingly the opposite.  At the after party at Carmen, we chatted briefly about his stint at Cavalli, speaking Italian and how exciting the new collection is.  He is quite humble, shy, and soft spoken… AND Yes, he is even more adorable in person.

I guess he is not about all the pomp and circumstance in public, but considering the collection it is pretty much confirmed that he knows how to hold court inside the design studio.
